Getting everyone to agree on where to eat is hard enough – but deciding what to order doesn't have to be. To take the guesswork out of group dining, here are some of the best set menus to try this Auckland Restaurant Month.

  • Sharing-style lunch or dinner at Esther - $65

4 Viaduct Harbour Avenue, Auckland Central

This MICHELIN-selected, European-style bistro brings the authentic taste of the Mediterranean to the Viaduct. The set menu makes a great spread for group outings: graze on a selection of pitta, baked saganaki, spanakopita and lamb souvlaki to start, followed by lamb and vegetable moussaka and village salad. For something sweet, enjoy the Kataifi nest with rosewater ice cream. See full menu here.

  • Three-course dinner at Hugo’s Bistro - $65

    67 Shortland Street, Auckland Central

This welcoming all-day bistro brings sophisticated, European-inspired fare to the heart of the city. For a delicious meal among friends, the set menu spans snacks – socca with brie and cranberry and a venison and pork corndog – and a choice of market fish or braised venison curry. For dessert, choose from olive oil and sea salt semifreddo or “a Fable of Chocolate”: dark chocolate mousse, white chocolate meringue, and milk chocolate crumb. See full menu here.

  • Two-course lunch or dinner at Gilt Brasserie - $65

    2 Chancery Chambers, Auckland Central

This award-winning, MICHELIN-selected restaurant – helmed by celebrity chef and former Gordon Ramsay protege Josh Emett – is an all-day brasserie serving contemporary European cuisine for metropolitan lifestyles. This set menu is a great choice for a special occasion: choose from calamari a la plancha or chèvre bûche blanche to start, followed by a main of harmony porchetta or bouillabaisse. See full menu here.

Indulge in a mystery cocktail or mocktail, and deep-fried banana ice cream to finish. See full menu here.

  • Two-course lunch or dinner at Tacoteca - $30
